How can I contact you other than on the contact section? I need advice on what direction I should take on an online school that I am looking to start. Was wondering if you have insight on where to find a curriculum/content for classes and well as a plan for attack. Basically I know the niche and subniche i want to be in, I just don’t know the best plan of attack to get the content set up.
Do I make up course material and then quizzes. add videos as well. whats your advice on setting up one of these themes, custom work etc?
I’m looking for a LMS like the one used at this site, linuxacademy.com It’s excellent, I have used it as a customer. Key needs are Courses, with most video content, quizzes, exams, and/or exercises. Course progress metering. A bbs to for community communication. Certificate generation. Payment system. Do you have some recommendations? To my novice eye, it looks like Guru, Academy, LMS, might be some considerations.
Thanks!
Rob, In your case you should be looking for themes that comes with LearnDash support such as Invent and Lincoln. These themes comes with all your mention features such as certificate generator, quizzes, payment system and everything else.
I was looking for a theme for my college. The basic requirements needed are students and teachers will be able to login with different roles. They should be able to upload and download notes, syllabus of different subjects, courses and view exam routines, notices as well. Can you please help me recommending a exact and considerable wordpress theme ….? .
Dear, I need online course theme “Education WP” but I have some questions:
1- how I can keep my videos from download by other peoples which are means no one can download my videos even when students was enrolled.
2- About courses lengths which I mean is I want upload unlimited numbers of courses on my website, did this website can accept it?
3-Can you help me to change the style of this theme because I need use Arabic fonts which means from right to left the website contents!
4-For pay money I need have more options about payment like”Visa card, PayPal, Master Card” and have another option when I want any students can take this course without payment just only I will find student users and make active by self!
many thanks, I’m waiting your reply!
Adam,
1. The simplest way is to use Youtube embeds. These days it is difficult to download youtube videos. If user will be able to find a way to download Youtube videos they will also be able to download any other video format that there is. There is no way to fully protect them.
2. There are no limitations on number of courses or video length. Limiting factor can be only your hosting provider.
3. We don’t do customizations but Education WP theme supports RTL languages by default therefore no customizations are required.
4. By default PayPal is used as payment processor. Which means that you can receive PayPal to PayPal payments as well as process Visa, MasterCard and other car payments. PayPal does everything for you when it comes to payment processing.
I need your advice please. I want to offer a credit system for the students, so they would be able to purchase credits and pay with it on my site. Which themes would you recommend beside WPLMS? I see it supports MyCred point system…
Thank you in advance.
David,
WPLMS is currently the only theme which supports myCRED by default. Personally I’m not familiar with myCRED but I think that their official plugin for WordPress should help with integration to other themes as well.
Aigars,
Can you please help me choose the right theme? I’m working on an online course, but not specifically education based(math, science, etc.), but rather a course where people can pay a fee and have a self-study experience. So I wouldn’t need credits or teachers areas or things of that nature. I use WordPress and want something simple for me to create, with table of contents, links, maybe some embedded videos, written things, self assessment, etc. I’m just confused by everything I’m seeing out there. Could you steer me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Lew
I’m looking for an LMS where courses are split into modules and units. The settings are configured where the student cannot access the next unit until he/she finishes the previous unit. For example I have a course Online Teacher Training Course, which has a module English Skills Development. ESD has five units. Any student cannot start the Unit Two unless he/she finishes Unit One.
Thanks!
Azee,
Instead of looking for themes you should research LearnDash on which these themes are based. Themes are all about design and functionality comes from WordPress and LearnDash. Therefore check the platform as a whole to see if it has what you are looking for. They have admin demo available that you can check and also their website offers a lot of useful information. Once you are done with that you can choose theme that you like as they will apply design and not functionality.
so many great LMS WordPress themes. I am thinking which one will I use for my online courses, Social Learner or WPLMS? I want the same functionality of UDEMY.
Roel,
In that case WPLMS would be a better fit.
Hi Aigars,
It is me again. I am looking for a theme to build a marketplace website for:
1- In person tutoring,
2- Online tutoring
3-Online courses with assignments, quizz, certificates and so on.
Which theme would you recommend me?
Thanks
Ztal,
All LMS themes does exactly that. They have online courses with quizzes, certificates and all that.
Thank you for that great collection:
I was wondering if you could recommend a theme for me? I’m creating a website for offering English conversation classes. My focus however is that of a private non-school-like atmosphere. The template I was working with before was a single page template which proved too difficult to use with the use of landing pages ect. I need something that is topography friendly and easily updatable. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks so much!
Olivia,
I can recommend Education WP and WPLMS.
Hi Aigars,
I have the same question as Ztal above.
Please give your advice. Thank you.
Hi Aigars,
Thanks for this article. I’m planning on moving my current site to a WP platform. My business is an annual conference that I video presentations and sell them as well as create continuing education from some. I would like to be able to let folks register for the conference and workshops, complete home study education, and have a blog. Basically:
– create quizzes from video presentations
– instant grading and certifications
– sell registration to annual conference and workshops
– blog
I was thinking Lincoln or WPLMS, is that what you would suggest?
Thanks!
Rajam,
Both themes will get the job done for you. My personal favorite is WPLMS as it has been well tested by thousands of users making it a bulletproof solution.
Hi Aigars,
What would be your recommendation for a single course site, that must be FERPA compliant? I like the look of Social Learner, but I suspect it is too difficult to lock down for compliance purposes.
Thanks
Adam,
Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with FERPA regulations. Not sure if these themes are compliant or not. I believe that they should be but I can’t guarantee it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Algars,
Thanks a lot for sharing and guidance.
I am planning to use WPLMS theme for my online course. However, I am requesting for your advice on whether this theme will require enhancement using WP Courseware plugin or the theme has all functionalities that I need.
What would I miss if I just purchase the theme and leave out the plugin?
Many thanks for your guidance
I’m looking for a LMS like the one used at this site, fourpercent.com It’s excellent, contain of courses, live and recorded webinar, membership level add-on, affiliate program included and cart available as well. Maybe, anyone can give opinion. In my novice ideas, they are using wp-themes-webinar, but after search nothing like webinar themes in google..
thanks
Hi everyone, As a training manager looking for an LMS, I need your help, please.
Looking at these, there seems to be a convolution of what an LMS represents… I am looking for a system that can setup and manage physical courses, as well as online learning (Scorm) courses.
It tracks registered participants and attendance, certificates, teachers and co-teachers, as well as scheduling and venues across the organisation.
The online part consist of either selling elarning (Audio/Video lessons) as added value product following from the physical product being delivered. Sometimes free to current students, sometimes for a fee. We also want to put up freemium to anyone, and/or paid products to anyone. Like separate classes, or DVDs, books etc. (Woocommerce)
In addition it could be able to interact with payment systems
– automatic receipts for payments as well as automated emails for reminders, completions, and most importantly surveys. – Within a course it should be able to send out scheduled tests and assignments.
– It should be able to report on participants total courses taken, as well as check prerequisistes when enrolling in new courses.
– Waiting lists for fully enrolled courses.
– Being able to move participants from one class to another.
Connected to plugins as buddypress, campaingmonitor, woocommerce.
As a training manager I understand what I need, but not enough skill to understand if any of these WordPress plugins meet the requirements. I would like to avoid having to redesign our website using 5-10 plugins working together.
I would love it if someone who are more familiar with the LMS systems can give me some advice. LearnDash seems unable to deliver physcal courses.
With kindest regards, John
Hi Aigars,
A question from Portugal 🙂 seems to be the 1rst as far as i seen.
We are rebranding our website and searching exactly for some LMS functionalities.
But the more we read sometimes the more we get confused.
I was expecting to be able to choose between those themes that bring included some kind of LMS (not purchased apart) and that give me some flexibility.
Nowadays we have only offline (office) courses but more and more we are getting to our clients in digitak ways (not yet so much by our site) and we wanted to get to a bigger audience with the help of a new website and that can be prepared to in 1 year go a bit more to online learning or b-learning.
At this date what would you recomend? 1rst, 2nd, 3rd? Thanks so much in advance. I´ve been struggling to choose for 3weeks and still not convinced.
I am looking for a theme where I can create a classroom feel, students log on and where students can complete assignments online within the course and their work can be marked.
David,
That’s what LMS themes are for 🙂
Great review of the different LMS themes. I however hope that you can and are willing to help guide me in this jungle.
What we need is a website that works on multiple levels, we are going to use WP and WooCommerce with the WooCommerce Subscriptions and Memberships combination. But with a LMS would we even need Memberships and Subscriptions?
Our requirements for the website to function as:
1. Blog
2. Course based education
3. Tutorial videos
4. Online coaching (maybe through videoconference software)
Do you happen to know about a theme that would allow us to incorporate all of that?
Best regards from Denmark,
Kenneth Christiansen
My best bet would be WPLMS. They have integration with WooCommerce subscriptions. Supports Video conferencing and are also have a feature for Video download protection via Amazon S3.
Hi, Im looking for a theme for a website with online guided meditations, e-books, blog, online courses with all from 1 to many lessons. Some free and some to buy and also membersite with monthly or yearly pay. Can you recommend any. Should I go for a theme with meditation/yoga theme or LMS/online course theme.
The main ide is guided meditations and online workshops/courses as membership.
Thank you.
Louise – DK
Hi Aigars, thank you for such a comprehensive post! Lots of great info here. Looking for an outward facing LMS with shared market place – we pay the teachers a commission for the course (plus the usual bells/whistles of course – quiz, certificates, groups, etc.) Is WPLMS the leader in this area also or do you recommend something else?
Either WPLMS or any theme that supports LearnDash will do the trick. Such as EduPro or Invent.
Hi Aigars,
I am looking for a theme to build a elearning
1- Online courses , Leasson, Assignments, quizz, certificates. and progress
2- Teacher and Students login
3- Group Creations by Teachers and student and follow them Boyh can share content, comment, download and rate
4- a Teacher can go live on web cam and student can see his leacture live and students can get notification
Which theme would you recommend me?
Thanks
Hello Aigars!
I would like to create my own site, where i can publish my videos, and i can manage my offline courses too.
I have more than 100 students, with different knowledge, so it will be important to manage courses visibility.
I need a dependency manager, i guess. For example, when you done with the “Photoshop Basics” course, you can see the “How to be a master of Photoshop” course. Without the basic, you cannot buy the anvanced course.
Do U know, which theme is the perfect for me?
Thanks a lot,
Daniel
None of the themes will do that because LMS part is always done by the plugins such as LearnDash. All these themes does support LearnDash and that’s the tool you want to research. Themes support all the functionality of it but by default themes are just design/layout and doesn’t have any functionality unless combined with some LMS plugin.
Hi Aigars,
Thanks for the article. I want to make a marketplace like Udemy by WordPress. It should allow many teachers to create their courses and to sell on it. What is the best LMS theme and plugin?
Thanks a lot.
Joseph
Any theme on this list will work perfectly fine since that’s the whole idea of these themes.
The best plugin to use is LearnPress and it already comes as a part of most themes listed above.
