What’s new in 3.0
Bootstrap 5.3.8 (1.0 loaded a Bootstrap 5.0 beta) compiled from Sass with only the parts the pages use. Swiper 14 replaces tiny-slider, PhotoSwipe 5 replaces GLightbox, the browser’s own date fields replace the datepicker plugin, and a small reveal module replaces AOS. Build with npm run build.
Lighter pages: the home page went from 17.4 MB and 56 requests to 2.4 MB and 43 requests, and the contact page from 3.9 MB and 33 requests to 673 KB and 11 requests. Every photo has an AVIF version with the JPG as the fallback, and the download went from 23.9 MB to 10.8 MB.
No third-party requests at load: Nunito and Old Standard TT are self-hosted, Font Awesome, Ionicons and Flaticon are replaced by SVG icons and a 1 KB social-logo subset, and the video tour loads Vimeo only after a click. The Google Maps script, which loaded on every page, is replaced by a contact map (OpenStreetMap, no API key) that loads only when the visitor clicks Show map.
Working contact and blog comment forms through php/send-email.php, with validation, a spam trap and an in-page message.
Accessibility: a skip link, one h1 per page, names on social, card and gallery links, labelled booking and form fields, a visible focus ring and WCAG AA text contrast, with dark text on the gold buttons.
Fixed: script errors on eight of the nine pages, the second gallery tile opened the first photo, the contact map had no height on tablets, and the footer Quick Links, phone and email links went nowhere.
Restaurant menu items are named after their photos (all were “Grilled Beef with potatoes” or “Ham & Pineapple”), typos are corrected, and three photos that showed brands are replaced.
