Description

UniversityEdu is a website template for universities, colleges and schools, built on Bootstrap 5, with a clean design in deep green on white. The layout is responsive and works on phones, tablets and desktops. It comes with seven pages: home, about, programs, blog, blog post, contact and elements.

The home page has a top bar with an offer and a countdown timer, a sticky menu with a drop-down submenu, a hero, a teaching approach section, program cards, essential resources (first-year students, tuition and fees, international students), top stories from the blog, a partner logo carousel and a join-now band, with a back-to-top button. The programs page presents four faculties, the blog has eight posts, each with its own page, two list pages and a sidebar with search, categories, recent posts, tags and a newsletter form, the blog post page has comments and a comment form, and the contact page has a contact form and a map that loads on click. Use UniversityEdu as it is or adapt it to your own institution’s brand.

What’s new in 3.0

  • Bootstrap 5.3.8 (the earlier release used a Bootstrap 5.0 beta and jQuery), compiled from Sass with only the parts the pages use, and plain JavaScript with no jQuery, including the header countdown. Swiper 14 replaces Slick on the partner carousel, PhotoSwipe replaces Magnific Popup in the elements gallery, native selects replace Nice Select, an accessible menu panel replaces SlickNav, and Lucide SVG icons replace two icon fonts. npm run build (Dart Sass and esbuild) compiles one minified stylesheet and one script.
  • Lighter pages: the home page went from 1.82 MB and 52 requests to 695 KB and 26 requests, and the download from 4.78 MB to 2.82 MB, now with the Sass sources and build tools included. Every photo has an AVIF version with the JPEG or PNG as the fallback, real dimensions and lazy loading below the first screen, and unused plugins such as Owl Carousel, WOW, CounterUp and Modernizr are gone.
  • No third-party requests: Chivo is self-hosted, the social logos come from a small Font Awesome Brands subset (the Twitter bird is now the X logo), the contact map is OpenStreetMap, loaded only when a visitor clicks “Show map”, and a Google Analytics 4 snippet stays commented out until you add your own ID. Before, every page loaded its web font from Google Fonts and the contact page loaded a maps script from Google.
  • Working forms: the contact form, the blog comment form and the newsletter forms in the footer and the blog sidebar send through their own PHP handlers, using a safe mailer with validation, a spam trap and an in-page message. Before, the comment and sidebar forms posted nowhere, the footer newsletter posted to a third-party mailing list, and the contact form used an unsafe mailer.
  • Accessibility: a skip link and landmarks on every page, one h1 per page, labelled form fields, names on icon-only links, visible focus rings, a menu and submenu that work from the keyboard (the Blog submenu also opens with a first tap on touch screens), reduced-motion support and WCAG AA text contrast, with darker grey meta text and lighter greens on the slate bars.
  • Fixed: each page has its own title (every page was titled “Education | Template”); the hero and page-banner text is readable over the photo, with a scrim behind the copy that keeps the photo in view; on the elements page the selects no longer show a double box, the “Right Aligned” sample is right-aligned, two icons that never rendered now show, and the page no longer scrolls sideways at 768 px; the “Essential resources” links pointed to a missing page and most buttons and footer links went nowhere, and they now open real pages; the back-to-top button no longer shows on load; and the documentation page is regenerated from the README.
  • Blog and demo content: eight distinct posts (the old blog repeated two headlines), each with its own page, with working search, category and tag filters, true category counts and recent posts with their own thumbnails; four distinct faculties on the programs page (science, arts, engineering and business), faculty links in the footer, a header offer that no longer names a real company, fictional partner wordmarks in place of real company logos, fictional contact details, and photos with real landmarks or brand marks replaced or retouched.
