Updated September 2026: this snippet is now plain HTML and CSS: no jQuery, no Bootstrap files, no plugins. The download is 99 KB (it was 247 KB). Use it on its own, or drop it into a Bootstrap 4, 5 or 6 project and it looks the same. It needs no JavaScript at all.
