• Fixed a fatal error on single posts by an author who has a biography. template-parts/author-info.php called a class removed in 2021, so every such post stopped with "Class Newspaper_X_Profile_Fields not found". The author box now lists the contact methods the site already has, and a site without any shows the box without social links.
• Removed KB Support from the recommended plugins. WordPress.org closed it on 2025-04-03 over a security issue. Any closed plugin is now skipped rather than shown as a blank card.
• The Recommended Plugins tab fetches all plugins in one request instead of one per plugin, and no longer caches a failed lookup for half an hour.
• The Install button sits inside its plugin card, and plugin names are no longer truncated to a few characters.
• Author archives reached by ID (?author=1) no longer log a PHP warning.

• The Layout A widget stacked its posts into a column of full-width blocks instead of laying them across the row. Rebuilding the stylesheet on Dart Sass changed the order two rules came out in, and a base width overrode every breakpoint.
• The top bar wrapped onto a second row, doubling in height, once a site had more than about five social links. The row is a flex line from the large breakpoint up, so the search form and the icons stay on one line whatever the count.
• A news ticker headline could show a one pixel sliver of the next headline beside it.
• The welcome screen loaded its translations before init, which WordPress 6.7 and later warn about and which leaves those strings untranslated.
• Removed the last references to the retired Epsilon framework: a require for a control class in a directory that no longer exists, and two CSS class names on the welcome screen.

• Security: newspaper_x_get_attachment_image and newspaper_x_dismiss_required_action were registered for logged-out visitors. Both now require a nonce and the edit_theme_options capability.
• Security: The contact widget printed its phone, email and address into href attributes unescaped.
• Security: Colour settings are re-validated where they are printed, not only on the way in.
• Compatibility: Font Awesome 4.6.2 replaced with 7.3.1, subsetted to the 47 glyphs the theme renders: 7.4KB of woff2 rather than 254KB. Load the full set with add_filter( ‘newspaper_x_full_fontawesome’, ‘__return_true’ ).
• Compatibility: Bootstrap updated to 3.4.1, which fixes CVE-2019-8331. Bootstrap’s JavaScript is no longer loaded; the theme never used it.
• Compatibility: Owl Carousel updated to 2.3.4.
• Compatibility: The Epsilon framework is removed. Its Customizer controls are replaced by native WP_Customize_Control subclasses.
• Compatibility: PHP 8.5: case statements terminated with a semicolon, and a dynamic property on the breadcrumbs class.

• Compatibility: The calendar widget styled #prev and #next, which WordPress replaced in 4.9.

• Fixes: The font-size mixin resolved rem against a 16px root while Bootstrap sets 10px, so code blocks, the skip link and the mobile menu icon all rendered at 62.5% of their intended size.
