Get yourself Spring, a religious website template built on Bootstrap 5, and craft a welcoming church or ministry website. It is responsive, mobile-ready and works in all modern browsers, ready to help you spread God’s Word. Use it out of the box or adapt it to your own branding, and present your sermons to your congregation and beyond. It comes with eight pages (home, about, ministries, sermons, upcoming events, blog, blog post and contact).
Along with the home page, you get inner pages for your ministries, sermons, events and blog. The features include a countdown to your next service, a testimonial slider, a photo gallery with a lightbox, sermon videos, animated statistics, parallax page headers, a newsletter form and a working contact form with a click-to-load map.
What’s new in 3.0
Bootstrap 5.3.8 (the 2019 release used Bootstrap 4.2.1), compiled from Sass with the original Bootstrap 4 proportions, and plain JavaScript with no jQuery. Swiper 14 replaces Owl Carousel on the testimonial slider, PhotoSwipe 5 replaces Magnific Popup on the gallery, Jarallax replaces Stellar on the page headers, the sermon videos open in a built-in dialog, and small built-in modules replace Waypoints, animate.css and the counter plugin. Plugins that did nothing are gone, including a time picker whose script was missing (a 404 on every page). npm run build (Dart Sass and esbuild) compiles one minified stylesheet and one script.
Lighter pages: the home page went from 3.5 MB and 67 requests to 1.4 MB and 38 requests, the sermons page from 2.2 MB and 46 requests to 647 KB and 21 requests, and the download from 4.8 MB to 4.6 MB. Every photo has an AVIF version with the JPEG as the fallback, images have real dimensions, and the full-screen preloader is gone.
No third-party requests: Poppins, Raleway and Crimson Text are self-hosted, the four icon fonts are replaced by Lucide SVG icons and a 1 KB social-logo subset, and the maps on the home, about and contact pages are OpenStreetMap, loaded only when a visitor clicks “Show map”. Before, every page loaded a maps script with a sample API key, and the maps showed an error. The “Watch Sermons” buttons now open a stock church clip (an unrelated agency promo before), loaded only after a click.
Working forms: the contact and comment forms send through php/send-email.php and the newsletter form through php/subscribe.php, with validation, a spam trap and a message shown without leaving the page. Before, the forms had no handler and no field names.
Accessibility: a skip link, a main landmark, names on icon and image links, labelled form fields, visible keyboard focus (the old CSS removed it) and WCAG AA text contrast, with near-black text on the tan buttons and the Recent Sermons panel (white text there was 2.1:1), a darker tan for links and darker greys for body text.
Fixed: the home page countdown counted to December 2019 and showed minus 2,355 days, and now counts to the next Sunday service or a date you set; on phones and tablets the page no longer jumps under the reader when the header becomes fixed; and links to a sermon page that did not exist now go to the sermons page.
Demo content: the contact address is fictional (a real street before), two Bible photos are recropped so the publisher’s name is out of the frame, and an off-topic blog heading about website themes now fits the church niche.
