Notary is a website template for a notary office or a small legal practice, built on Bootstrap 5. The home page opens with a full-screen photo hero and an appointment form, followed by six practice areas, a short “why us” block, client testimonials and a FAQ accordion. The layout is responsive and mobile-ready. There are five pages: home, practice areas, testimonials, about and contact.
The practice areas page lists bankruptcy, business, civil rights, criminal, immigration and family law, each with its own anchor in the menu. The about page introduces a six-person team with portraits and roles, the testimonials page has six client quotes, and the contact page has a working contact form beside the office address, phone and email. Notary gives a notary, legal adviser or small law office a ready-made site to present its services and take appointment requests.
What’s new in 3.0
Bootstrap 5.3.8 (the earlier release used Bootstrap 4.3.1 and jQuery), compiled from Sass with the theme, and plain JavaScript with no jQuery. The appointment date is a native date field instead of a jQuery date picker, Lucide SVG icons replace the icon fonts, and plugins that were loaded on every page without anything to run (Owl Carousel, Fancybox, AOS, Waypoints and others) are gone. npm run build (Dart Sass and esbuild) compiles one minified stylesheet and one script.
Lighter pages: the five pages and the thank-you page went from 7.2 MB and 163 requests to 3.6 MB and 81 requests, and the home page from 1.5 MB and 34 requests to 0.8 MB and 17 requests. Every photo has an AVIF version with the JPEG as the fallback, real dimensions and lazy loading below the first screen; the hero photo is preloaded, and phones get portrait crops of the hero and footer photos.
No third-party requests: Roboto and Playfair Display are self-hosted, the social logos are a 1 KB icon subset, and a Google Analytics 4 snippet stays commented out until you add your own ID. Before, every page loaded its fonts from Google Fonts.
Working forms: the appointment form and the contact form send through php/send-email.php, with validation, a spam trap and an in-page message. Before, they had no field names and could not send anything.
Accessibility: a skip link and a main landmark on every page, one h1 per page with headings in order, a real menu button and a mobile menu that closes with Esc, a Practice Areas submenu that opens from the keyboard, labelled form fields and social links, visible focus rings and WCAG AA text contrast, with darker greys, dark logos on the peach icons and a darker shade over the hero photo.
New photos and content: sharper hero, footer and team photos from Unsplash, a different portrait for each team member and client, notary copy instead of placeholder text, a FAQ about appointments and fees, and footer, menu and button links that go to real pages and sections (before, they linked to #).
