Magnews2 is a news and magazine website template built on Bootstrap 5. The home page opens with a trending-news ticker and a grid of featured stories, followed by category blocks with tabs, a most-popular list, a featured video, a newsletter box and ad placements. The main menu has mega menus that preview the latest posts of each category. There are twelve pages: three home page layouts, two category pages, a blog grid, two blog lists, two article layouts (with a sidebar or with a full-width photo header), an about page and a contact page.
Articles come with tags, share buttons and a comment form, and the contact page has a working contact form. The layout is responsive, from a phone menu to the wide desktop grid. Magnews2 suits an online magazine, a local news site or a niche news blog.
What’s new in 3.0
Bootstrap 5.3.8 (the earlier release used a Bootstrap 4 beta and jQuery), compiled from Sass with the proportions the design was drawn with, and plain JavaScript with no jQuery, Animsition or Animate.css. The category tabs, mega menus, trending ticker and fixed menu were rewritten, and the video opens in a lightweight dialog. npm run build (Dart Sass and esbuild) compiles one minified stylesheet and script.
Lighter pages: the twelve pages went from 47.9 MB and 803 requests to 15.9 MB and 390 requests in total; the home page from 5.7 MB and 87 requests to 2.6 MB and 48. Images are served as AVIF with JPEG fallbacks, and the mega-menu thumbnails load only when a menu opens.
No third-party requests: Roboto and Lato are self-hosted, icons are an inline Lucide sprite with a small Font Awesome Brands set for social logos, and the video loads only after a click.
Accessibility: a skip link, landmarks, one main heading per page, menus that work from the keyboard, labelled controls, alt text and colour contrast that meets WCAG AA.
Working forms: the contact, comment and newsletter forms send email through an included PHP script with spam protection and clear success and error messages, and the search boxes lead to the archive.
New photos at twice the previous resolution with crops for phones, redrawn ad banners, real links in every menu and footer, and page titles, descriptions, social cards and structured data on every page.
