Description

Deerhost is a website template for web hosting companies, built on Bootstrap 5, with a deep indigo and blue-violet design and isometric server artwork. The layout is responsive and mobile-ready. There are eight pages: home, about, hosting, pricing, blog, blog post (one page for each of the twelve posts), contact and 404.

The home page has a hero slider with two slides, a domain search, the hosting solutions, plans with a monthly/yearly switch, counters, a website builder and online store section and an offer list. The about page has the company story and counters, hosting features, the team and a customer testimonial slider. The hosting page shows five plan families in tabs (web hosting, servers, cloud VPS, dedicated and reseller), each with its own comparison table, an FAQ and a question form, and the pricing page has the plans with the monthly/yearly switch, the offer list, the FAQ and the question form. The blog lists twelve posts with “Load more posts”, a search and featured posts, and each post has share links, an author box, links to the previous and next posts, comments and a comment form. The contact page has the contact details, a map that loads on click and a contact form, and the 404 page has a site search. The domain search and the log-in and sign-up screens are demos: availability is simulated and no account is created, and the screens say so. Use Deerhost for a web hosting company, a domain registrar or a cloud server provider.

What’s new in 3.0

  • Bootstrap 5.3.8 (the earlier release used Bootstrap 4.4.1 and jQuery 3.3.1), compiled from Sass with the design’s original proportions, and plain JavaScript with no jQuery. Swiper 14 replaces Owl Carousel on the hero and testimonial sliders, a keyboard-operable phone menu replaces SlickNav, a small built-in module runs the counters, and the preloader is gone. Lucide SVG icons replace Font Awesome 4.7, ElegantIcons and the hosting icon font, with a small Font Awesome 7 Brands subset for the social logos (the Twitter bird is now the X logo). npm run build (Dart Sass and esbuild) compiles the minified stylesheets and one script.
  • Lighter pages and a much smaller download: the home page went from 1.52 MB and 24 requests to 0.66 MB and 21 requests, and the contact page from 1.31 MB and 61 requests to 0.57 MB and 16 requests. Photos have AVIF versions with the JPEG as the fallback, every image has its size set, and images below the first screen load lazily. The download went from 5.66 MB to 0.90 MB: the zipped library copies are gone, and it includes the Sass sources, the build scripts and the PHP mailers.
  • No third-party requests: Montserrat is self-hosted, the icons are local SVG, the contact map loads OpenStreetMap only after a visitor clicks “Show map”, and a Google Analytics 4 snippet stays commented out until you add your own ID. Before, every page loaded Google Fonts and the contact page loaded Google Maps with the page.
  • Working demos and forms: the domain search checks the name and lists it under five endings with yearly prices and a Register button (availability is simulated, and the results say so), and a log-in / sign-up dialog checks what the visitor typed and says that nothing was sent. Every “Choose plan” and “Buy now” button opens sign-up with the chosen plan. The contact, question, comment and newsletter forms send through php/send-email.php and php/subscribe.php, with validation, a spam trap and an in-page message. Before, the domain search and every form posted nowhere, and the log-in and sign-up links went nowhere.
  • Distinct demo content: each hosting tab has its own plans and comparison table (all five tabs showed the same table), and the footer links open the matching tab; yearly prices are labelled “/ year” (they said “/ month”); the blog has twelve distinct posts, each with its own page, “Load more posts” and a search (the earlier release repeated placeholder headlines); the second hero slide has its own message; and the server illustrations, the hero and footer backgrounds, the 404 scene and the blog illustrations are redrawn as original artwork in the same style and colours. Company details are fictional, customers and commenters are shown as initials, and every button and almost every link goes somewhere (about 280 links went nowhere).
  • Accessibility: a skip link, landmarks and one h1 per page, labelled fields, a phone menu that keeps keyboard focus inside and closes with Esc, keyboard access to the Pages submenu, the hosting tabs, the FAQ and the monthly/yearly switch (the switch could not be reached by keyboard before), visible focus rings, larger tap areas for the slider dots, reduced-motion support and WCAG AA text contrast: the copyright line, invisible on the footer before, is readable, the footer call number is lighter, and the phone-menu links stay visible on hover (they turned the colour of the panel).
  • Fixed: the 404 page’s top bar stacked into two rows on tablets; the pricing page highlighted “News” in the menu and its breadcrumb said “Domain”, and the 404 breadcrumb said “Contact”; the hero’s cloud edge was cut off on wide screens; every page had the same title and description; and typos and placeholder text are corrected throughout.
