ThemeShift Review

Here’s a theme vendor which doesn’t stand out that much from the rest. Their website itself doesn’t grab much attention which doesn’t say much for their themes before we even start. Granted, a theme selling site doesn’t want to outshine its products, but this one isn’t shining much at all. As with iThemes, TeslaThemes and plenty of other companies, the themes they sell are powered by a framework which allows customization without the need for coding knowledge. In this case, it’s FrameShift, which appears to have a nice UI and some good functions for developers.

ThemeShift do have some free themes, but they are really quite difficult to find. There’s no separate section for them, either. Since there aren’t all that many themes to choose from on ThemeShift, they were locatable through a process of trial and error. Surprisingly, they’re very nice indeed; nothing too overwhelming – very functional business-blog style themes. Nothing on ThemeShift is as ridiculously over-the-top like some I saw on Totokoo, but they aren’t all minimal in a beautiful kind of way either. Some themes, such as Deposito, a portfolio style theme, are generally nice to look at but they can’t help but feel like a cheap version of the great portfolio themes on Graph Paper Press – some of which were free and beat ThemeShift’s offerings with ease.

The prices, unlike Graph Paper Press and other similarly overpriced vendors, are actually very nice. The problem (or not) is that they don’t have an option to buy every theme they have made for a set price, something which seems like an industry standard thus far. This could actually turn out not to be that much of a problem, when companies that did that usually charged $10 less for one theme than they did for the entire package. These themes are either free, or for a fixed rate of €39, which is better than some of prices around by far.

ThemeShift are a little like the younger brother of GavickPro, the way their themes are nice and minimalistic. But they are certainly still learning to make something which ticks all the boxes.
